The Coyote Valley Vision Plan was sponsored by the Greenbelt Alliance to demonstrate an alternative to business-as-usual suburban sprawl. The 68,000 acre site south of San Jose is slated to accommodate 80,000 new residents and 50,000 new jobs. The plan illustrates the many benefits of accommodating this program within a compact, transit-oriented, mixed-use community. It is organized around a grid of streets and blocks, with a framework of parks and open spaces integrated with flood control. With moderate density, the plan preserves 2/3 of the land for recreational open space and urban agriculture.
