Broadway Family Apartments provide 156 units of desperately needed low-income housing where San Francisco’s former Embarcadero Freeway had ripped into the confluence of three historic districts. The buildings house a rich program of childcare, open space, community gardens, community rooms and social services on these tight, complex and densely developed sites.

The project was executed in two phases, with the second (southern) site awarded by the Mayor’s Office of Housing to the development and design team after the stunning success of the first phase. Together
the projects restore the fragmented blocks and give low-income housing the solidity and dignity of the older historic structures.
